Of an initial list appended with more recently recognised zoonotic pathogens, 86 pathogens remained on our list, which were identified as most relevant for the Dutch situation (Van der Giessen et al., 2004, Van der Giessen et al, 2010). Basic information (taxonomy, animal reservoir, transmission routes, global distribution e.d.) of each of the 86 emerging zoonotic pathogens is assembled in the information system of EZIPs. When new zoonotic pathogens are identified in future, these can easily be added to this dynamic database.
